Born in Bramhall - Stockport, in 1964, I was educated at St Michael’s RC Secondary Modern (now the site of Aquinas College), before gaining a DATEC Diploma in Display and Exhibition Design at Tameside College of Technology. On entering the workplace, I pursued a career in Visual Merchandising, working for a range of prestigious local department stores.

1993 saw the birth of my daughter Catherine, followed by my son Michael in 1996. During my consequential career break, much of my time was spent painting: from murals, to furniture, to abstract canvases; my distinctive style growing. Getting back into part-time work once the children started school, I had the opportunity to take up various art and design classes. I am proud to have achieved a Distinction in ABC Level 3 Interior Design from Stockport College, whilst continuing to paint both personal pieces of art, and commissions. I was fortunate for my paintings to be displayed in local shops and a hairdressing salon – from which I received a variety of commissions from customers and clients.

Over the last few years, my painting style has evolved and I have found a style that suits me, and what I want to convey: what you see is what you get. My use of clean lines, bold colours and striking simplicity are inspired by many 20th Century artists, although my greatest influences are undoubtedly my parents: My father Denis – a photographer, and my late mother Patricia – an avid painter and ceramicist.

Most recently, I have been using acrylics on canvas to portray my home town of Stockport. My initial inspiration came from looking at the town’s iconic viaduct – and the rest followed naturally. I am captivated by the history of the town, as well as my own personal memories, and enjoy showing off Stockport’s landmarks just as they are and how everybody remembers them: with no frills, but standing the test of time.

My Stockport pieces marked the start of an exciting future for me and my art; I have exhibited in Stockport Art Gallery, and my work is available in the town’s popular tourist attractions: Staircase House, the Hat Works and the Air Raid Shelters. Please contact me for more information.
